Have you got a document that needs to be sent out? A newsletter, pamphlet, flyer, bulletin, coursework, or even website content? Whatever it is, first impressions count. After putting in so much energy in researching, writing and sending out information, the last thing you want is for your reader to be distracted by an embarrassing error. You want your writing to be the best it can possibly be. Let us proofread it first.
When writing something important, such as a job application, it’s important to check your work thoroughly for mistakes, proofreading. A proofreader will not only spot spelling mistakes, but errors in capitalization, punctuation and grammar.
We employ skilled techniques in spotting common mistakes that are made such as;
- Missing words out altogether. Most people think much faster than they can write, so it's easy to leave out small words such as a, the, and in.
- Adding a suffix to a root word. It's easy to make mistakes especially when adding the -ing suffix.
The lady was bakeing a cake (wrong). The lady was baking a cake (correct).
- Using wrong words in the wrong place especially when using homophones. Homophones are similar sounding words but with different spellings and meanings.
The children put there toys in the box (wrong). The children put their toys in the box (correct).
- Not using correct punctuation marks
The girl's books are missing = books belonging to one girl.
The girls' books are missing
= books belonging to several girls
A computer spell checker can not always be relied on to spot every mistake. It will not pick up a misplaced word, or a freak-typo where an 'at' becomes an 'as' or an 'an' becomes 'and.' That's where the human come in.
